Information revealed recently shows that HMRC’s unit which deals with the biggest 800 companies has over 2,300 unresolved queries, a third of which are greater than three years old.  Some MP’s are demanding that the names of all of these large companies be published.  HMRC are facing an uphill struggle having shed 37,000 jobs since 2005 and facing another reduction of 10,000 jobs by 2015.  Somewhat unsurprising that the unit collected 8% less tax compared to 12/13.

Did you know that the “tax gap” for the year ended March 2012, an estimate of the amount of tax HMRC should collect compared to what they did collect, was £35 billion!
